This is going to be a big pay-it-forward week at Casa Casey.
On Friday, Courtney and I make our annual trip to the NICU to
deliver baked goodies to the nurses, doctors and staff at North Shore
University Hospital. Seven years later, this tradition continues and now
Courtney is more involve in the process - picking the recipes, measuring the
ingredients, and mastering the electric mixer.
Somewhere in all the preparation, I sneak in a math lesson
(doubling a recipe counts, right?), a reading lesson (as we reread my
grandmother's recipe learning new words like alternating), and a lesson in
"you don't lift the beater out of the bowl with batter on it because
butter/flour mix will shoot wildly all around the kitchen" (much to the
dog's delight)!
This LeaderMom treasures these moments - teachable moments - on so
many levels. It's important to me that in the midst of a jam packed weekend, we
stopped for a few hours to preserve this important family ritual.
I hope the NICU team likes our goodies and I hope you have a
pay-it-forward week too!
